Bennett on Iran's cover story

World Economic Forum, Davos

May 26,2022

CNN host Fareed Zakaria:

“Iran obtained IAEA documents (International Atomic Energy Agency) and used them to systematically and intentionally lie to the inspectors to conceal its nuclear program”

Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdulhian:

“Unfortunately, the Zionists are spreading a lot of lies.“

PM Naftali Bennett:

"Spreading lies? Come on! I am holding right here the proof of your lies in my hands. You see, after Iran stole classified documents from the UN’s Atomic Agency, Iran used that information to figure out what the Atomic Agency was hoping to find, and then created cover stories and hid evidence to evade their nuclear probes.

So, how do we know this? Because we got our hands on Iran's deception plan a few years back, and it's right here in my hands.

Here it is, in the Persian language: hundreds of pages marked with the stamp of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence. There is even some handwritten notes on the documents by senior Iranian officials, like this one, written by the then defense minister Fakhrizadeh.

He writes: "Sooner or later, they, referring to the Atomic Agency, they will ask us, and we need to have a comprehensive cover story for them."

He is talking about a cover story. And here’s that cover story ….

Iran lied to the world. Iran is lying to the world today again right now. And the world must make sure that Iran does not get away scot-free.”

My comment:

Unfortunately, with all this proof the US and the Europeans keep behaving like the the Stanley Baldwin / Neville Chamberlain governments did towards Nazi Germany in the 1930s.  Here are the two final episodes of the 1981 TV series Winston Churchill: The Wilderness Years

Boris Bondarev’s resignation statement

My name is Boris Bondarev, in the MFA of Russia since 2002, since 2019 until now — Counsellor of the Russian Mission to the UN Office at Geneva.

For twenty years of my diplomatic career I have seen different turns of our foreign policy, but never have I been so ashamed of my country as on February 24 of this year.

The aggressive war unleashed by Putin against Ukraine, and in fact against the entire Western world, is not only a crime against the Ukrainian people, but also, perhaps, the most serious crime against the people of Russia, with a bold letter Z crossing out all hopes and prospects for a prosperous free society in our country.

Those who conceived this war want only one thing — to remain in power forever, live in pompous tasteless palaces, sail on yachts comparable in tonnage and cost to the entire Russian Navy, enjoying unlimited power and complete impunity. To achieve that they are willing to sacrifice as many lives as it takes. Thousands of Russians and Ukrainians have already died just for this.

I regret to admit that over all these twenty years the level of lies and unprofessionalism in the work of the Foreign Ministry has been increasing all the time.

However, in most recent years, this has become simply catastrophic. Instead of unbiased information, impartial analysis and sober forecasting, there are propaganda clichés in the spirit of Soviet newspapers of the 1930s. A system has been built that deceives itself.

Minister Lavrov is a good illustration of the degradation of this system. In 18 years, he went from a professional and educated intellectual, whom many of my colleagues held in such high esteem, to a person who constantly broadcasts conflicting statements and threatens the world (that is, Russia too) with nuclear weapons!

Today, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is not about diplomacy. It is all about warmongering, lies and hatred. It serves interests of few, the very few people thus contributing to further isolation and degradation of my country.

Russia no longer has allies, and there is no one to blame but its reckless and ill-conceived policy.

I studied to be a diplomat and have been a diplomat for twenty years. The Ministry has become my home and family. But I simply cannot any longer share in this bloody, witless and absolutely needless ignominy.

The first paragraph differs in Russian.

I have to say the following. Long overdue, but nevertheless.

You have voted for a nuclear war!

In Kostroma, regional Duma member Vladimir Mikhailov invited his colleagues to make an appeal to Putin about the inadmissibility of a preventive nuclear strike. He was not only not supported, but advised to see a doctor.

Vladimir Mikhailov:

“Recently on the central Russian TV channels there has been discussions by federal officials, politicians, journalists and experts of the scenario in which a possible preventive nuclear attack is executed by Russia. This Russian first use of nuclear weapons goes against Russian nuclear policy according to which the use of nuclear weapons is possible in the case of an existential threat to our country. At this moment there is no such threat facing Russia. The use of nuclear weapons by Russia will result in a global nuclear war in which all of humankind will be destroyed. I believe that it is impermissible for Russia to execute a nuclear attack first. So, colleagues, I ask you to put this forward for discussion and later support …

To the president, thank you “

Results of the vote:

Against      26

For                2

Abstained    3

Voice – colleagues, we have 31, so the motion is not carried .

Vladimir Mikhailov:

“May I say a few words on the results of the vote?”

Voice -  yes, go ahead

Vladimir Mikhailov:

“My respected colleagues, you do not sufficiently understand what has been transpiring today. Russia has never been a threat to world peace and humanity. We were brought up on the ideas of peace, good and justice. Since you not only did not support this motion, but refused to discuss it, I will leave this meeting in protest and consider what you are doing is supporting the possibility of a nuclear attack. Consequently, you have in fact voted for a nuclear war refusing to even consider my suggestion. “

A comment from one of his colleagues:

“Vladimir Viktorovich, I think you should consult a doctor. “
